The floor is one of the most impactful places to incorporate pattern into your design, according to interior designer Michael Kleiner. He recommends using a patterned tile on the floor, rather than a neutral tile, to add drama and personality.
Keep the rest of the space minimalist to allow for the stand-out flooring, he suggests. That way, the rest of the room will feel updated and modern without a lot of added texture or color.
Go Large-format
Choosing large tiles isn’t just an aesthetic choice; they also make the room feel bigger. That’s why designers are increasingly opting for them in place of smaller tile sizes, which can be more difficult to work with and tend to increase grout lines.
Consider Wood Tiles
If you want a natural look, consider wood tiles, which can bring in a rustic and warm feel. But don’t feel limited to real hardwood; there are ceramic and porcelain tile options that mimic the look of wood without having to install a real piece of wood in your bathroom.
Think Outside the Box When Creating Your Bathroom Walls
For a distinctly unexpected look, try running different types of tile in a single pattern. Lay white tiles in a vertical instead of horizontal pattern, for example, or run colored tile through a plain white subway design to add color without overwhelming the space.
